I figured when I made the "Cat waiting" tutorial, wouldn't it be nice if I could put that kitten up a windowsill. So here's my window view :)
Fire up your PSP, this tutorial can be done in all versions of PSP. For this tutorial you'll need my window view outline, download it here and a nice curtainfill.
Remember to save often !
Open my outline tube, hit shift+D and close the original tube. If you mess up you always can start all over again :)
Set your paintbrush to : Shape : square
Size : 1
Hardness, Opacity, Density : 100
Step : 25
Select your outline and floodfill it with the color of your choice, or you can use a woodfill. I've use a woodpattern that I've colorized. For the curtains, select a color that matches your curtains.
Select your windowframe (outer strip) with your magic wand, settings are RBG value, tolerance = 0, feather = 0, sample merged unchecked and floodfill it with the color of your choice. Invert your selection and add a drop shadow with a darker shade of your floodfill color.
Settings : V = -1 & H = 1
Opacity = 85
Blur = 5
Deselect and save your work !

Select and floodfill the windowsill strip with the color of your choice. Invert your selection and add a drop shadow with a darker shade of your floodfill color.
Settings : V = -2 & H = 2
Opacity = 100
Blur = 10
Activate your right curtain layer : select and floodfill your curtain with the fill of your choice. Invert your selection and add a drop shadow with a darker shade of your floodfill.
Settings : V = 2 & H = 2
Opacity = 100
Blur = 10 - Deselect.
Now comes the hardest part of the tut hehe. The shading of the curtains. I know there are many ways, this is how I did it. Pick a dark color to shade. Add a new raster layer (name it right curtain shading) and with your freehand tool draw several selections from the top to the bottom of your curtain. Remember hold your shift key to make several selections. Don't worry if any of the selection goes outside your curtain we'll fix that in a min ;). Floodfill it with the darker color of your choice and deselect. Go to Effects - Blur - Gaussarian blur : 3.00. Drop the opacity of that layer to 40.
Now go back to your curtain layer and select it. Invert selection and activate your curtainshadinglayer and hit delete. This will clear all the excess shading. Repeat this step with the left curtain and the swag :) for the swag you may want to use 5.00 as blur depending how dark your shading color is.
Save your work and now it's time to dress up your windowsill.
I hope you had fun doing this tutorial :) |
